Introduction

The research projects are dominated and approached by the dynamics one can find in the relationship between professional occupations and the academic world. Experts in areas like computer science, social science, behavioural science, communications, linguistics, ergonomics, graphic and industrial design, art and drama bring them forward.

CID is co-operating with a number of Schools of Art in order to increase the aesthetic level and to acknowledge and use different media's creative possibilities, as well as increase the understanding of the use of IT.

CID is also a participating research institute in international projects by being involved in, for instance Esprit — an EU-project. Two specific projects to be mentioned are eRENA and KidStory. These two projects end during 2000/01 and we will continuing co-ordinate two new projects within “mixed reality” Shape and interLiving intergenerational communication. Our deep involvement as co-ordinator of European Community funded research projects will continue as they are very important for CID's development and maintenance of world-class competence.

The research at CID is closely connected to and co-operating with IPLab, with which many of CID's researchers are affiliated. Both CID and IPLab are involved in HMI the Graduate School for Human-Machine Interaction.

We will continue developing our research during the fourth stage 2003-2005 in close co-operation with our partners. We have recruited nine new partners mainly within the media and education area.
