About CID

CID is one of VINNOVA's competence centres located at KTH. The centre was founded in 1995 and since August 1996 CID has its own locality adapted to the activities, including proper laboratories, technical installations and areas for visiting researchers, in close connection to IPLab, Interaction and Presentation Laboratory, at NADA, Numerical Analysis and Computing Science.

Sweden has a long tradition of research in ergonomic and user oriented design, which also is a main focus for CID. The aim is to develop and continue this competence in work environment, working skills, and development of demonstrators and prototypes of usable IT products.

The centre is a joint effort between KTH, VINNOVA, 29 industrial partners and representatives from user organizations and funding, financed by Vinnova, KTH and the partners, is guaranteed until June 2005.

Among the industry partners are large Swedish IT companies such as Telia. The user organizations includes the largest Swedish trade unions, LO and TCO, and large governmental administrative organizations, RSV and Skolverket. Other partners and organizations are: DataDoktorn, Hjälpmedelsinstitutet, and Vattenfall.

The interdisciplinary research includes computer science, human science, and design science. In design science, we co-operate with design and media universities in Stockholm.

Usability and user oriented aspects are central in all projects at CID. This means that we work close to the users, and try to solve daily problems in machine- human- designs.
